DO not BUY a Dyson! I used a DYSON DC14 on my carpet and it literally chewed the carpet and left "hair" all over my loop carpet and places where I stopped to move the cord it chewed down into the carpet and left ragged marks the width and length of the beater bar. I have addressed this issue with DYSON and the BBB and they are not willing to stand behind the product. If you value your floor DO NOT BUY A DYSON!!! Oh and DYSON's response was their vacuums tend to be agressive on some types of flooring. Maybe they should say that in their advertising? DYSON also suggested turning the beater bar off and using it in bare floor mode on my carpet how ignorant is that? Why else would you purchase a vacuum cleaner. Very disatisfied and out a lot of money to replace my carpet. POOR POOR POOR Product.
Part of my due diligence was to read most of the reviews. I must say, after using this product for a while, I believe some of the 1 star reviews are created by Dyson's compeditors.
Claims of cheap, flimsy, loud, heavy, and poor engineering and design are not true. This unit has a great design and cleans better than anything we have used.
All the features work simply and easily. Release the canister...push a button, open the canister...push a button, remove the filter....flip a lid, use the extension tube and hose....flip a lid, pull out the extension tube, push a button and you have about 15 feet of hose at your disposal with about a 3 foot aluminum tube that the attachments go on.
The only reason I did not give this unit 5 stars, is because the hose and tube are not always easy to use without the vacuum being held in place. This is esily accomplished when doing stairs from the bottom step working up because the bottom step braces the unit as you work up the stairs.
I think we have gotten up dog hair that is years old. I don't impress easily.....I'm impressed.

I've heard many good things about Dyson, and after careful consideration, I opted to purchase this model. This model fit our budget a bit more than the others, as well as having a good warranty.
The vacuum picks up very well, from dust to pet hair. The machine is very simple to use, and the instructions are visually oriented.
The pull out hose (the extension) was a little confusing in the beginning, but not too hard to figure out. The design overall is different than other brands that I have used, but very comfortable. It also is not very heavy, or difficult to push around.
This is a very good product, and if I had to make the purchase again, I would.
This is a decent vacuum when it works. Today the clutch went out for the second time in less than a year. When the clutch dies, the beater bar will not work. My DC14 is still under warranty, but I suggest that if you own one, you also have a 2nd vacuum cleaner for the times that it is in the shop.
This upright has good suction but is not very good on carpets or anything else and is very chintzy build. This, along with the hideous design, makes me wonder why I ever bought a dyson. I'd love to find something that is designed to last a few years.
love my product--but it took forever to get. Was told it would arrive between February 24-March 16, 2009-I got an email on March 17 stating sorry for the delay-and I finally got my item on March 24-way too long-very frustrating-Thank you, Cynthia
Sweeper is great and works perfect. Item showed up in great condition. The only problem we had was the shipment time. It took exactly one month from day of order to day of delivery. Seems awful long, even for standard ground shipping.
I cannot imagine my life, nor my home without my Dyson. I always joke and say that this vacuum sucks dirt straight down to China. I have put this vacuum and my old Bissell (two of these pieces of junk have caught on fire for me) to the test and my rug "seemed" clean by the Bissell. After going over it with the Dyson it was found that the carpet was filthy really. You don't think your floors or carpets are dirty to the naked eye, but when your Dyson goes after it you can fill almost a whole canister at times. The problems I do have are just annoyances.
1. It's sort of heavy for petite people such as myself. Carrying it upstairs to down, and vice versa is a bit cumbersome.
2. The hose portion that you use to get into tight crevices needs to be redesigned. When you take it out to use it the vacuum starts rolling and the "stick" part inside the hose acts like it wants to punch through the actual hose. Its just a pain the neck to use and I hope Mr. Dyson redoes this quickly.
All in all, after owning an awesome Dyson and losing two Bissell Vacuums to catching on fire, I will never, ever think to buy anything else but Dyson. Everytime I see the Dyson commercials I say "thank you Mr. Dyson, youre a genius!"
This vacuum cost me an arm and a leg, and I wish I never would have bought it. It loses suction constantly, and after only 3 years of moderate use, the extender hose doesn't even suck anymore. I wouldn't use another Dyson if someone gave it to me. It does not pick up well at all on bare floors, and it's abysmal when you try and vacuum carpet against walls or furniture. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! Half the time, I end up picking up what's on my carpet by hand - it's less aggrivation.
By beautiful I mean excellently designed. Every valve and joint was thought through. It wasn't just thrown together.
We've been using this for about 4 or 5 months now and i hasn't lost suction at all. Previous vacuums have lost suction within a few weeks, but not this one! The wand is long enough to reach up a full set of stairs, and the cord isn't too short like on others.
Highly recommend.
