breville bov800xl the smart oven

Product Description

The Smart Oven's Element IQ puts the power where it's needed most. For each of the 9 pre-set programs, Element IQ delivers the right power at the right time and when adjusted to taste, it even remembers. Element IQ works much like the dimmer in your light switch-it can turn the power up or down. Instead of the 5 heating elements having a fixed wattage, Element IQ automatically puts the power where it is needed most for the specific cooking task. Not only does the Smart Oven heat up faster than a conventional wall oven, it's also more energy efficient than its predecessor, making it a kitchen tool you will use every day.

As a piece of kitchen equipment easy to use with multiple options, this is well done. It is expensive however. And, as a toaster, I feel non-green toasting anything less than 6 pieces at a time. Makes a wonderful Pizza however. I wait for the upgrade so I can record Rachel Ray and other cooking shows. Maybe they'd put a pop up flat screen? About the only thing lacking.

I had been in the market for a toaster oven for quite some time. The Smart Oven fills our needs perfectly. We broil fish for dinner almost every night, roast veggies, use it for small entrees, pizza, and toast. I did a lot of research. We are very pleased with our purchase.

After doing alot of research on other makes and models and all the positive reviews this one got I bought it.

What I payed for...

-Large capacity
-Stainless design
-Digital controls
-High output elements
-Short cord

I was looking for an oven with the largest capacity available and this model had just that. That way I could bake those large pizza's and large casseroles. The stainless body is easier to clean and holds up better than tin. And it doesnt change color due to long periods of exposure to high heat. The digital circuits and controls will last longer than standard analog units. The oven heats up very quickly and has the ability to get extremely hot! The five quartz elements really make a difference. I knew going in that the only drawback might be the short power cord. It is indeed very short and has a funky wall plug. The plug has a ring built-in probably to ease pulling it out of the wall? I twist tied the cord to the side of the ring because it stuck out way too far. Other than the cord I'm truly enjoying this little oven. I've used it for a few months now and hope to enjoy it for years to come.

I loves me a shiny new appliance so of course I wanted one of these after reading the amazing reviews.

The other reviews really cover most of the things you need to know so I'll give you a quick summary:

1. It is a true convection oven and it does cook things evenly for the most part.

2. The settings are good but I'd like for them to revert to the original settings after use. For example: the default setting for a pizza is 22 minutes starting at 450 degrees F. But if I make a smaller or thinner pizza I will set the temperature lower and / or the time shorter. Then when I put another pizza in later it defaults to the last settings I used. I'd prefer for them to stay at the defaults.

3. Yes the cord is short. Also this thing will affect other appliances on the circuit so you want a good power strip to filter and protect, especially in an older home.

4. This is very very easy to clean. The rack and the included pans and the crumb tray just wipe off. I have melted a lot of cheese and pizza toppings all over the darned place inside and outside the oven. It wipes away with ease.

5. The magnets that pull out the rack: I hate them. Here's why: the rack is slippery and so are the included trays. When I go to take something out of the oven it slips to the back with just a teeny nudge from a potholder or a spatula. I've lost a few open faced sandwiches this way. I went to take them out and they slid through the back on to the element. Sad face. Fortunately they were easy to clean up after the oven cooled.

Yeah it's a lot of money for a toaster. But it's the best frozen pizza oven I've ever had and I eat frozen pizza a lot. Worth the $ for me, if not for the pizza than for the ease of cleanup.

This oven surpasses my expectations. I don't have to adjust my cooking times just because it's small and the features are useful. You aren't supposed to use foil but so far, I haven't missed that.

Breville has produced a solid oven. Every function works perfectly, it generates enough heat, is easy to clean and is well thought out in general. One of the most used appliances in our kitchen.

We have had this unit for about a month now. During that time, we have made toast, bagels, cookies, pizza, casseroles, pot pies, brownies and a cake. It has also been extensively used for reheating various foods.

In all cases, the Breville unit performed flawlessly. Without a doubt, it is the BEST toaster-oven we have ever had. We have a microwave/convection oven, but rarely use the convection oven feature because it is very noisy. When the convection feature is operating on the Breville toaster-oven, you can hardly hear it, even a couple of feet away.

I was a little concerned that the rising heat might get the overhead cabinets too hot, as the unit is taller than most toaster-ovens. It turned out not to be a problem, even when baking. A digital thermometer placed in the cabinet above the unit showed only a 2-3 degree temperature rise inside the cabinet, after more than an hour of baking.

As some reviewers have mentioned, it would be nice to have an internal light. But, at least for us, it is not a problem, as the unit is positioned in a well lighted area and the food inside may be easily viewed.

I HIGHLY recommend this Breville toaster-oven!

Trying to replace our DeLonghi toaster oven became one disappointing task after another. Each toaster oven I tried seemed to be lacking in performance and design. I decided to try the Breville. We use this appliance several times throughout the day so the extra expense would be worth it.

We are very pleased. We have had it about one month and everyone in the household likes the features, the way it cooks and the ease of use. We all quickly mastered the controls. We have a gas oven that takes about 20 minutes to preheat so the extra capacity of this toaster oven keeps me from having to use the big one for things like a side dish of mac cheese.

I also want to add that keeping the crumb tray clean is a breeze because it just slides right out the front. Some complain that it is big and heats up too much. I have not found it to be any bigger than other models that are comparable in price and features. Also, on an open counter, the heat is not that noticeable.

I have had the Breville a short time, but I would highly recommend it.

My daughter recommended it to me, and I am very pleased with all it can do.

Customer Buzz
I was looking for a Toaster Oven that would fit in with my new kitchen. I've had the Breville for about a month and so far it has been great. It heats up fast, lets you know when it has reached temp and cooks very evenly. It makes great toast too and it has a timer so you know how long before your toast will be ready. It is expensive but so far it is worth it. It looks good and the quality is good. I would have liked to have a baking sheet besides the round pizza tray and I don't like the way that the door snaps shut if you don't have it all the way open.
